Pastor Calvin T. McCray

Pastor Calvin T. McCray, Sr. was born June 15, 1944 in Johnstown, PA., accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized at the age of 12 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist church, Johnstown, PA.   He was licensed as a minister in 1962, relicensed in 1995 and ordained in 1996 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  He was ordained as Assistant to the Pastor at the Mt. Sinai Institutional Baptist Church in 1997. 


He graduated from Johnstown High School and attended the Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana.  He entered the U.S. Air Force and after an honorable discharge he returned to Johnstown and attended U.P.J. and received a Bachelor of Sociology degree.  He continued his religious studies through the following institutions; Moody Bible Course School External Studies, Liberty University, Andersonville Baptist Seminary and American Association of Christian Education.

He was the owner and president of Crayar Construction Company, a  3 million dollar per year highway Construction Company.  Also, Therapeutic Staff Support at theASSIST Inc., and Classroom Monitor at the Johnstown Alternative Resource Program.  Rev. McCray was also employed by a variety of businesses and agencies being a mentor and counselor to many individuals including troubled youth in the community.  He was also able to share his coaching ability as a Greater Johnstown Assistant Football Coach..  

His community involvement includes receiving the following:  Certificate of Merit for Dedicated Christian Service – AUBA Congress of Christian Education 1991.  Life Skills Training Program as Instructor, Teacher/Trainee – Abstinence from sex.  Education Instructor for Department of Health and Welfare, American Red Cross, Keystone Division Adult CPR, Pa Department of Health HIV/AIDS Counselor, American Heart Association, Healthcare Provider CPR/AED Program.

His memberships include the Johnstown Branch NAACP, board member and former 2nd Vice President.  American Association of Christian Counselor, Former Lee Regional Hospice Spiritual Team.  Cambria County Correctional Facility, Pastoral Team teaching biblical principles to male and female inmates.  Johnstown Zoning Board and Human Relationships.  Johnstown Police Advisory Board.  Fellowship of Christian Athletics.

His awards / achievements include Brotherhood Award – University of Pittsburgh in Johnstown.  Rev. Andrew J. Tilly Award (High Honor, Minority Student), Freedom Award – Johnstown Branch NAACP.  People Are Great Award – WTAJ-TV, Altoona.  Outstanding African American Male – Johnstown Branch NAACP

Pastor McCray has been married to Dorothea McCray “retired nurse” for 45 years.  They are the parents of Calvin T. McCray, Jr. of Harrisburg and Alvin O. McCray of New York, NY.  The grandparents of Randi Tyree and Jordan Mae McCray of Reading, PA.
